The state-approved health resort is situated exactly at the stream bifurcation of Aller and Leine, in the intersection of age-old trading routes. There are good shopping options, a bathing lake, a public indoor swimming pool and a series of historical buildings. The St-Paulus church in Gilten has a vestry from the date of origin around 1450 and a mosaic floor made from pebble stones of the river Leine.
